Earlier, it was reported that all users whether using genuine or pirated versions of windows 7 and 8.1 will get a free upgrade. Later, the company changes in its statement reporting only genuine existing users of windows 7 or 8.1 will get the free upgrades not the pirated ones.
How to register for free upgrade ?
A.2 If you are a genuine user of windows 8.1 or 7 then you can simply register to the upgrades. If your windows is up to date then you are able to see a windows logo in the right corner of your PC or Laptop. Click on that and a pop-up will shown. Now, click on Reserve for free upgrade and enter your Microsoft -ID and there you go. You will also a pop-up showing that you are reserved for free upgrades.
According to Microsoft 3GB space is required for this and the time taken for downloading of 3GB data depends on your internet connection.
Will I lose my personal data after upgrade??
Microsoft say that your files and applications will be saved, but still we recommend you to create a backup of your data , while the softwares like antivirus will be removed or uninstalled while upgrading.
